Ardor3D - L4D: episode 2

by Renanse | Thursday, August 06, 2009 in , , |

Here's the next episode, following hot on the heels of the first. I actually made the first a few days ago, but did not post it as it felt kind of anticlimactic to post an introduction to something that didn't exist. :) I have footage for episode 3 already, but since this one took several hours to put together I think I'll have to wait until this weekend to get to it.

Anyhow, enjoy!

Very nice light effect! Sorry to ask stupid things, but is this a dynamic lighting thing? how is this kind of shading done?

Do you mean the lightmaps? Those are just textures applied in a secondary channel in this episode. In episode 3 we'll show using shaders to dynamically scale them though. :)

Yeah, i meant that, i was not sure if it was lightmap - honestly i never used them. :) I thought there might be some lightsources with attenuation or dynamic. Thanks for clearing this up! :) Can't wait to see the next one!

I can't believe ardor has a bsp importer now/soon. What format does it read, vmf rmf map or built bsp's?

Look forward to the next vid :) keep up the great work!

Currently we're parsing Valve's BSP format, so technically it's VBSP. We're also reading VTF, VMT, VPK, VVD, VTX and MDL as well. :)

We still need a GCF file loader if anyone already has one coded up in Java. :P
